Extrinsic staining is caused by external factors that directly discolour dental enamel, such as tea, coffee and red wine.
Intrinsic staining happens as we get older and the nerve in the tooth lays down more protein inside of the tooth which affects how light passes through the tooth. Whitening treatment gently breaks up this protein and so it can last up to 10 years.

Can anyone whiten their teeth?
If you are younger than 16, you are not a candidate for teeth whitening. This is because the pulp chamber in young teeth is larger than that of an adult, and whitening treatments could cause irritation. If you are pregnant or lactating, teeth whitening is not recommended.

Teeth whitening treatment is a big step towards a more confident, happier you, and it’s never too late to bring out that pearly white smile!
How long does the teeth whitener last?
Good oral hygiene and regular dental cleans will help keep your teeth white for as long as possible. However, diet, ageing, alcohol, smoking, and many other factors can change the shade of your teeth over time. The good news is that when that happens, you can simply come see us for a touch-up to maintain your sparkling white smile.
Can teeth whitening ruin my teeth?
The yellow discoloration of your teeth is the most common sign of damaged enamel. However teeth whitening doesn’t damage your tooth enamel, and therefore is completely safe to use.
